Cyber Performance Center, Hack The Box, has been selected as the winner of the “Cybersecurity Certification Innovation Award” in the 8th annual CyberSecurity Breakthrough Awards program conducted by CyberSecurity Breakthrough. CyberSecurity Breakthrough Awards program is a leading independent market intelligence organization that recognizes the top companies, technologies, and products in the global information security market. On a mission to honor excellence and recognize innovation, hard work, and success in a range of information security categories, the program attracts thousands of nominations from over 20 countries worldwide.

Hack The Box has revolutionized the landscape of cybersecurity certifications with its innovative approach and four industry certifications: Certified Penetration Testing Specialist (HTB CPTS), Certified Bug Bounty Hunter (HTB CBBH), Certified Defensive Security Analyst (HTB CDSA), Certified Web Exploitation Expert (HTB CWEE).

What makes HTB certifications stand out among the other certification programs is their emphasis on real-world applicability. Rather than focusing on teaching individual techniques, attacks, or procedures, HTB certifications provide hands-on upskilling and assessments that validate skills in both offensive and defensive cybersecurity.  This approach equips corporate IT teams to identify vulnerabilities, mitigate risks, and align their expertise with business objectives.

“Our focus on realism enables platform members to not only learn individual techniques, attacks, and procedures but also to apply them to real-world challenges. This supports our mission to redefine cybersecurity performance by equipping cyber teams with not just hard skills and knowledge, but the capabilities needed to make a meaningful impact on their organization’s security posture”, said Haris Pylarinos, Founder and CEO at Hack The Box. “Thank you to CyberSecurity Breakthrough for this award which also belongs to our entire community. It’s the scale of this community that allows us to keep distilling insights from across sectors and stay up-to-date on the latest trends and attack vectors.”

Hack The Box’s certification process is uniquely structured to ensure that professionals are not only knowledgeable but also market-ready. To be eligible for certification exams, students must complete all modules in their designated job-role path, each featuring hands-on assessments that test their understanding without revealing answers. HTB certifications do not include multiple-choice questions; instead, students are required to perform actual activities in multiple real-world environments, think outside the box, and chain multiple vulnerabilities to achieve each exam's objectives. A key requirement is the composition of a commercial-grade report to demonstrate market readiness. The entire exam and certification process is conducted through the candidates’ browser from start to finish.

Steve Johansson, Managing Director at CyberSecurity Breakthrough, highlighted, “The success or failure of cybersecurity depends on people. A lack of skill causes over 50% of cyber incidents. However, most certifications result in limited proficiency and lose relevance to what cyber professionals actually face. Organizations, government agencies, and academic institutions turn to Hack The Box to recruit, upskill, retain, and track their teams’ success through one single environment. We’re pleased to award Hack The Box with the ‘Cybersecurity Certification Innovation Award’ for helping to create and maintain high-performing cybersecurity individuals and organizations.”

As the cybersecurity landscape continues to evolve, Hack The Box remains committed to expanding its certification catalog and equipping professionals with the practical skills and knowledge needed to stay ready and strengthen their organization's security posture.
