Hack The Box is announcing its sixth annual global University Capture The Flag (CTF) competition, taking place from December 13-15, 2024, powered by Ynov and Bugcrowd. This competition brings together university students from around the world, offering a unique opportunity to sharpen their cybersecurity skills through real-world challenges.
As the global demand for cybersecurity professionals grows, the talent gap is projected to reach 85 million by 2030. Recent Hack The Box research also shows that 90% of respondents believe new cybersecurity graduates need practical, hands-on experience to succeed in the field. The HTB University CTF meets these needs by offering students hands-on experience with cutting-edge offensive and defensive cybersecurity techniques. By tackling real-world problems, participants gain practical skills that prepare them to perform to their best from the very start of their careers. In 2023, university teams from 94 countries submitted a record 2,270 flags, marking a 46.3% increase in participation from the previous year. This growth reflects the rising preference of students to participate in hacking competitions to gain the practical skills and hands-on experience needed before they embark on their careers.
With 18 challenges across six categories - such as crypto, pwn, web, forensics, and more - the HTB University CTF 2024 promises an immersive experience for all skill levels. Challenges range from "Beginner to Hard" ensuring accessibility for both newcomers and seasoned competitors. Participants will compete for over $90,000 in prizes, including premium Hack The Box content access and swags. They can also earn certificates of attendance. Additionally, exclusive hacking workshops and talks on the day before the competition will further enhance participants' skills.
Teams of 1 to 30 players can participate in the CTF from anywhere in the world. The competition will feature both Jeopardy and FullPwn formats.
